John N. Harris, Jr. C.E.O., Harris, Reese & Associates Inc.

John N. Harris, Jr. currently is the C.E.O. and Co-Owner of Harris, Reese & Associates, Inc., which is a (DEI) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consulting Firm which focuses on the recruitment, staffing, and retention of BIPOC (Black and Indigenous People of Color) candidates for roles and positions for Academia, Corporations, and For-Profit/Non-Profit Organizations across the United States. He also has many years of experience as an Executive Board Member in the Non-Profit world in the areas of DEI as it relates to Career Development, Career Advancement, Corporate Fund Raising, Corporate Donations, and Corporate Business Development. Mr. Harris has been a successful sales and marketing Executive and Leader in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries for over 30 years. He is an author of several books, mostly non-fiction.

John N. Harris, Jr. received his B.S. Degree in Biology from Bates College. He possesses an M.B.A. in Management from Long Island University, C.W. Post, and a Post Graduate Certification in International Business from Hofstra University, Frank G. Zarb School of Business. Originally from New York City, NY, he also lived portions of his first sixteen years in Long Island, NY, and Sheffield, MA. He completed his High School years in Sheffield, MA at the Berkshire School. Mr. Harris is a world traveler and speaks several different languages. His favorite quote comes from the bible, from Galatians 6:9. “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap if we faint not”.

James L. Reese Associate Dean of Students for International Student Programs, Bates College

Dean James L. Reese currently is the International Student Adviser attending to the initial transition and ongoing career progress of students who hail from or live in outside the United States. He also conducts dialogues and programs on topics and issues pertaining to students’ lives as they come to Bates from various global societies. At Bates, over the years, his oversight responsibilities have encompassed Housing, Student Activities, International Advising, Co-Direction of the MultiCultural Center, Transfers, and Nontraditional students. He has had extensive and long interest in diversity matters, some related to Bates' longstanding principles of openness from its origins. His focus has been to enhance a student’s comprehensive knowledge of Bates resources and support - validating all individuals and groups. Interactions between individuals and groups have been of longtime personal interest, especially seeking to define and analyze beyond standard explanations and solutions.  

Dean Reese graduated from Middlebury with a degree in American Studies. Originally from Selma, AL, he also lived portions of his first sixteen years in Knoxville, TN and Charlotte, NC. He completed his high school years in Cherry Hill, NJ.  He came to Bates, hired for two years, which morphed deeply and meaningfully into 45. Most of his life has been lived on high school and college campuses.
